GSA Schedules Small Business Set-Asides: Benefit or Detriment?

Small businesses have a great deal of opportunity to grow in the government market, and by understanding GSA schedules you may increase your company’s chances of winning a contract. The Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) dictates specifically how a small business can benefit from contracts set-asides for specific small business types, but there are strict guidelines to follow.

Under a formal set-aside, a schedule contractor must meet two additional criteria to be eligible to compete:

  • Small business must perform 50% of the work
  • Small business non-manufacturer must offer the product of a small business manufacturer
  • SBA can waive this requirement for a class of products
