Over the past five fiscal years, total federal reported spending in the region was $76.5B, with 94% of the regional spending attributed to defense agencies. Key findings include reasons why San Diego is a market to be considered by federal contractors, especially those with a defense and information technology focus:

• Despite a 4% drop in regional federal reported spending from FY10 to FY11, the regional CAGR was 9% from FY07 to FY11.

• San Diego continues to be a major federal business center in the western region of the US. Deltek projects that the value of regional business opportunities anticipated to be released from May 2012 through June 2014 will total more than $4.3B.

• Prime Vendors of all sizes have experienced positive CAGRs for the five fiscal year period, including Eight of the Top Ten Prime Vendors; Six of the Top Ten Active 8(a) Prime Vendors, and Six of the Top Ten Service Disabled Veteran Owned Businesses (SDVOB) prime vendors.

• All of the Top Five Regional Industries experienced positive CAGRs over the five fiscal year period.
