Karen Evans, DOE CIO to replace Jim Flyzik

The Federal CIO Council elected Karen Evans, chief information officer at the Department of Energy, as vice chairwoman, replacing Jim Flyzik who is scheduled to retire from federal service this December.

In her new position, Evans will work directly with the Office of Management and Budget to coordinate cross agency policies and initiatives. These initiatives will include: 24 e-government initiatives, and the development of new IT workforce classifications and training.

Evans started her stint at Energy earlier this year after leading the Information Resources Management Division in the Justice Department's Office of Justice Programs (OJP). She has more than 20 years of government experience, and has worked with the Agriculture Department, the National Park Service and the Office of Personnel Management.

Flyzik is retiring from government on Dec. 17, after 28 years of federal service. He is currently the lead IT adviser at the office of Homeland Security, and most recently served as the CIO for the Department of Treasury.
