Procurement Hotspot: State and Local Governments Are Focused on Building Public Parks

Over the past couple years, public parks have become a spending priority for state and local governments. There is an increased interest in developing public features and amenities, like public parks, in an effort to create more livable and attractive communities.

Indeed, there has been a noticeable rise in solicitations for the construction of public parks in recent years. From Pennsylvania to Texas to Washington, communities across the U.S. are looking to build new parks and expand on existing ones. Between 2017 and 2018, the market for building, maintaining, or designing parks grew by 11%.

This increased procurement activity reflects a growing public interest in health and wellness. Americans are also taking recreational amenities like parks, trails, and pools into consideration when they decide where to live. Governments recognize this trend and are taking steps to provide spaces where their citizens can lead healthy lifestyles.

Government leaders are also being encouraged to create long-term plans for developing their park spaces. As a result, they are seeking qualified vendors to provide a variety of services, from construction to design to consulting. Given this, vendors capable of contributing to public parks should actively seek out these opportunities.
