Issues that exist in the current federal acquisition process have been well documented in numerous US Government Accountability Office (GAO) and Inspector General (IG) reports. Most recently, the recommendations of the Acquisition Advisory Panel After several years of talking about the need for acquisition reform during which we have seen the culmination of events has set the stage for the likelihood of substantial acquisition reform initiatives to be kicked off in the next 12-18 months. Address Acquisition and Contract Issues was one of the “near term” items that the US Comptroller suggested the leadership should tackle in the new Congress.The Services Acquisition Reform Act (SARA) Acquisition Advisory Panel report is finalized.New Democratically controlled Congress is fervent about the idea of acquisition reform as a means to safeguard against government fraud, waste and abuse as seen in Iraq and the Gulf Coast.
