Each February the government technology industry awaits the release of the President’s budget proposal, including the Exhibit 53 which is released along with the budget and contains the line item details for IT initiatives. The Fiscal Year (FY) 2008 Budget is out on schedule, but this year the Exhibit 53 is being delayed until spring. OMB has stated to INPUT that they expect to release the Exhibit 53 “between March and June.” Still, there is much to learn from the IT budget roll-up that was included in the President's budget request. This INPUT/Output report looks at the broad themes in the budget request and provides a preliminary analysis of the cabinet-level departments information technology budgets and plans.
