August 2014 wrapped with 54 percent more solicitations released than July.

While Q3 tends to be a slower quarter, several large and high-dollar projects were awarded in the justice and public safety market, including two projects out of Texas. The radio frequency and global positioning system (GPS) electronic monitoring equipment and services project was awarded to 3M Electronic for $7.4 million, and a new statewide contract was established for the emergency preparedness hardware, software, and related services project. More than 10 vendors were awarded the contract that is set to expire in 2017. Many solicitations released in July and August have proposal due dates in September or October, so vendors should keep an eye out for more awards before year’s end – especially now that governments have established their budgets for the fiscal year and funding is available.
