The justice and public safety market saw more than 5,000 solicitations released in February 2015.

Frequency of terms in solicitations:

  • Camera: 33 (7 state; 26 local)
  • Fire alarm: 66 (14 state; 51 local)
  • Radio: 27 (13 state; 14 local)
  • Surveillance: 25 (5 state; 20 local)
  • CCTV: 9 (4 state; 5 local)

Notable RFP releases:

Lots of activity around next generation 911 upgrades is taking place across the country. The state of New Hampshire released a solicitation for a next generation 911 system, while Virginia released a statement of work for a 911 comprehensive plan. The state recently completed a contract with Mission Critical Partners for an IP-based network feasibility study and estimates an NG911/ESINet solicitation to be released in late 2015. Finally, San Diego County released a solicitation for next generation 911 equipment for use in a 24/7 9-1-1 emergency communications environment.

Vendors should be on the lookout for more NG911-related solicitations released as the year progresses. Since these system upgrades are quite large and intensive, most entities choose to first release an RFP to procure a consultant to assist with project specifications before finalizing a system RFP. Entities nationwide are looking to enhance their systems, so expect more procurement activity as funds are designated to pursue upgrade initiatives.
