A monthly recap of SLED Education solicitation releases.

To start off the year for Education bids, the vertical saw an overall 1.3% decrease in January 2019. This comes after solicitation releases dropped 12% in December. This decrease is modest as compared to the second half of 2018 which experienced a reduced number of solicitations for five of the last six months. Also, State, Local, and Education forecasts are predicting a strong year for education procurement with the expectation that the number of bids released will be rising, especially in Q1 and Q2 of 2019.

When breaking down the two verticals, the Primary/Secondary Education market saw 93% of bids where the Higher Education market had 7% of the total. These percentages show the Primary Education vertical dominating the market by the largest percentage in over a year.

In regards to the primary requirements of bids, January showed a surge for Architecture, Engineering, and Construction with both Professional Services and Information Technology remaining similar to last month. The values for primary requirements have AEC as the highest percentage of solicitation releases with 42%, Professional Services at 12%, and finally Information Technology at 11%.

As for the data of procurements by state, Texas remained the state with the highest number of solicitation releases for January, followed by New York, and then California. These results continue the trend of 2018 with these three states at the top for solicitation releases. Finally, the fewest releases came from Washington, DC, Vermont, North Dakota and West Virginia with New Hampshire and South Dakota also having fairly low numbers. Two states to highlight this month are both Illinois and Michigan having a solid increase in bids released for January with a 27% and 34% increase respectively.

Notable Solicitation Releases

The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) has a requirement for an Event Planning Program for the Early Intervention Training Program (EITP). UIUC is seeking a web-hosted event management system to be used in planning, hosting, and coordinating events, as well as to register and pay for events, track attendance and participation, complete evaluations, and obtain the required documentation for their credential and/or license renewal. This is a rebid of a solicitation issued back in 2018 that was cancelled prior to choosing an awarded vendor. Questions in regards to the solicitation are due February 15 and proposals are due by February 21, 2019.
