After years of escalation, Russia launched a military invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022. The U.S. government has long supported Ukraine’s independence through various programs designed to sustain the country’s path to economic, political and security reform. Since independence, Ukraine has been a leading recipient of U.S. foreign and military aid in Europe and Eurasia, in increasing amounts since Russia’s 2014 invasion of Ukraine.
